Our client who is based in Central London is an outsourced provider of a range of business support services to niche financial services businesses.
As the business continues to grow, a need has arisen for a newly created position of Financial Controller. Reporting directly to the Managing Partner the successful candidate will be a bright and articulate self-starter with proactive initiative. It is also essential to have a strong and challenging personality and proven negotiating and influencing skills in order to drive through an agenda when required with a senior management team.
They will have experience of working in a similar and understand how a professional services firm (legal firm, accountancy firm etc.) works, what the key controls should be, what the profit drivers are and how to measure success.
They will prepare and analyse the firm’s monthly management accounts, including forecasting and budgeting both P&L and cash-flow. They will be able to seek out and identify issues, problems and opportunities within the firm and then provide the solutions. It will be essential to display a high level of IT literacy, with the ability to get the best out of and exploit technology, when using the practice management system (APS), Sage and Excel. They will have a good understanding of the dynamics of managing work in progress and debtors, as the role will also encompass an element of credit control / chasing late payments.
There is also likely to be some elements of an internal HR function in the role (e.g. contract management, processing and implementing systems to manage holidays, absence, BUPA, pensions etc)
This small and fast growing business now has 5 partners and approximately 25 staff. It adopts an open culture, with a flat management structure, where excellence in client service is their hallmark. Similarly the internal culture is marked by flexibility with some staff working part time and a number working partially from home where this fits in with their individual work requirements.
This will be a 3 day per week role. There are opportunities for occasional home-working and/or flexible start and finish times.
This role may suit an experienced finance professional with who is looking to work within a role that offers flexibility to fit in with family life. It is not suitable for someone looking to combine this role with other contract work. As the business grows there will be opportunity to extend hours if mutually agreeable.
Salary package up to £80k FTE plus discretionary bonus and family private medical insurance. Salary sacrifice arrangement may be available for other benefits.
